I oversee daily security operations for university research, including information management, physical security, personnel security, export technical classifications, and compliance monitoring. Create and implement security plans aligned with NIST 800-171/172 and DFARS 252.204-7012 for Principal Investigators to meet industry standards. Manage submissions to federal agencies, such as license applications, commodity jurisdiction requests, and export classification requests. Perform audits to verify compliance with University policies regarding export-controlled activities
I trained staff on proper security practices, collaborated with networking, desktop, and systems teams to identify and address security gaps, and worked with developers to enhance application security through code reviews and external consultations. I implemented systems for logging into a SIEM to alert and investigate security issues, reviewed vendors for information security and data governance, responded to security incidents, and drafted security policies in coordination with audit, legal, and compliance teams. Additionally, I advised executive leadership on compliance matters, oversaw the company-wide information security program, led SOC 2 and ISO 27001 audits, and acted as a subject matter expert in security and compliance. I conducted risk assessments using the NIST 800-30 framework, co-managed the vendor management program, directed penetration testing efforts, and developed customer-facing security documentation and audit/testing summaries.
I implemented SaaS-based customer programs, including Single Sign-On, Secure File Transfer automation, and GDPR compliance. I served as a technical resource, aiding client development teams with product implementation and configuration. Additionally, I triaged and documented customer security concerns to ensure timely resolution and collaborated with development teams to address these issues.
I configured and maintained SAP enterprise infrastructure, enforcing security standards and ensuring availability. Monitored and configured event-based alerts, responding to high-priority issues as an incident manager. Collaborated with software teams to enforce security standards and enhance system availability.
My spare time:I enjoy building and maintaining my home network to support my smart home. I also provide guidance on security best practices for self-hosted home security monitoring solutions.
My hobbies:I am an experienced SCUBA diver, specializing in technical diving and Nitrox air mixtures.
My volunteering:I have contributed to several organizations through various opportunities. One such effort involves leveraging OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence) for gathering and reporting information to help locate missing persons. Another includes instructing at-risk populations in data privacy practices.
My passions:I am a lifelong learner with a deep passion for cybersecurity. I continuously challenge myself through certifications and graduate-level coursework. Currently, I am enrolled in a Master's program in Cyber Defense, pursuing a technical track with the goal of earning a PhD.
